The Rabb Lab is looking to expand its research team. Below are current opportunities. Interested applicants can send a recent CV, a cover letter and the names of three references to [email protected].

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Opportunities

We are seeking a highly motivated and hardworking researcher for an immediate postdoctoral fellowship opportunity available at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Division of Nephrology. The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in an NIH funded R01 study to investigate the mechanisms involved in gut microbiota kidney cross talk during AKI and AKI to CKD progression.

Our groups identified the pathophysiologic role of CD4 T cells in Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and is at the forefront of identifying mechanisms through which T cells mediate the injury and repair phases of AKI following ischemia reperfusion or nephrotoxic insult. Prior results from my lab show that different subsets of CD4 T cells play pathogenic (J Clin Invest. 2001) as well as reparative roles during AKI (Kidney Int. 2009). Recently, my research group also identified that double negative T cells (CD4-CD8-TCR+) are important during AKI and play reparative roles (J Am Soc Nephrol. 2016, J Am Soc Nephrol. 2019). We have also shown that gut microbiota plays and important role in AKI pathophysiology and has a bidirectional relationship with kidney (Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2009, Kidney360. 2021). We are also recently started exploring the role of novel immune checkpoint molecules in AKI pathophysiology and repair processes and are interested to develop immune cell therapy for AKI.

Our lab utilized state of the art techniques such as single cell RNA-seq, CRISPR/Cas9, spectral cytometry and transdermal GFR and various KO animals to study kidney T cells in various experimental settings related to our research focus.

Required Qualifications:

A PhD or MD/PhD degree in immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology or other related fields is required. A strong background in T cell immunology, gut microbiota related techniques, multi parameter flow cytometry and survival surgery is highly desirable. Previous experience with mouse genetic models, immune cell isolation and culture or kidney-related research is desired, but not required.

Graduate students

The Rabb Lab is currently in search for a research technician to assist with day-to-day experiments and lab maintenance. Please see below description of job opportunity:

General Summary/Purpose

We are seeking a qualified and motivated individual to work as a laboratory technician to support exciting research projects on T cell immunology in acute kidney injury in the Division of Nephrology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. The laboratory is actively exploring roles of different subsets of T cells in AKI pathogenesis and repair. In addition to T cells we are also interested in other molecular and cellular processes that modulate acute kidney injury pathophysiology. A research technician is needed to assist with small animal models and in vitro experiments using immunological, molecular and cellular laboratory techniques. Additionally, the successful candidate must be organized and detailed while handling data acquisition, data analysis, animal handling, and record keeping in the laboratory.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

  • He/she must follow established protocols to perform experiments using immunological, molecular and cellular assays. Ideally, the lab technician should have experience in cell culture/cell separation, molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation and PCR/real-time PCR, flow cytometric analysis of immune cells and flow data analysis, as well as other functional and enzymatic assays.
  • He/She will be responsible for assisting postdocs and faculty with preparation and conducting animal surgeries. He/she will monitor the animal’s recovery from surgery and provides post-operative care.
  • He/She will purchase, monitor and inventory reagents, animals and general lab supplies for postdocs and faculty.
  • He/She should maintain a careful records of all experiments performed and assessment of quality of data generated is critical.
  • Ensure laboratory efficiency by following set protocols for lab cleanliness, organization and safety regulations.
  • He/She should have excellent interpersonal, time management, written and oral communication, and organizational skills. He/She should have cooperative and positive attitude toward work and ability to work independently when necessary.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in immunology, molecular biology or other related biological sciences. Previous laboratory experience with animal research and flow cytometry is preferred.
